These pages provide information about the ASE project. Please note that you may only undertake your project after completing the taught component (modules) up to the first trimester of Year 2 successfully.
The bare essentials of the ASE project are as follows. It’s a 30-credit module (COMP40090) with no formal lectures. It’s undertaken under the direct supervision of a member of academic staff in UCD. It is intended to be equivalent to 3 months full-time work. Part-time students take the project from May-August of their second year (but may start earlier), and are permitted to register for a third year and submit in December of that year (for a fee). The project involves the writing of a report or mini-thesis, usually in the range of 40-60 pages. Usually, though not always, the project also involves the development of some software.
Read and absorb the contents of these pages. Also read ASE Project Advice carefully. It gives a fuller picture of what an ASE project entails.
You have the option of writing a scholarly paper instead of the traditional mini-thesis. You’re encouraged to do this if your project is suitable. Read Publishing Your Project for more details of what this entails.
